Employee Benefits

No, we don't have heath care and a retirement package, but we do offer the following to all our employees:

Housing

We have primitive housing available on-site. These are platforms on which you can erect a tent and/or tarp system. They are situated in the woods, facing east, so you get the morning sun and afternoon shade. There are shower and bathroom facilities on-site. There is a washer and dryer also on-site that we all share. There is no charge for the housing, but there are a limited number of platforms, so make sure that you sign up for one when you are hired. We require a $25 clean-up deposit when you move, but you get that back at the end of the season once your platform is completely cleaned.

Food

You get a free meal while working (world-famous Smurff-burgers, aka sub sandwiches). They are make-your-own or made to order, depending on your position. There are 3 different kinds of meat, 2 different cheeses, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers, and various sauces, chips and cookies for dessert. These are so good at the beginning of the season, and you will be so sick of them by the end of the season! You will, however, find yourself craving them several months after the end of rafting season.

Free Trips

There is no charge to go on any of the trips that we offer (except for the chartered dinner cruises), AND you can take 1 person with you, also free of charge. There are certain provisions, such as there must be space available on the trip, and you can′t be working (or scheduled to work!) at the time. This means Saturdays are usually out, since there is rarely room on our trips, and in any case, you will be working.

Instruction

Community First Aid/CPR and River Rescue classes are offered free of charge to our employees. These classes are required for some positions, but any employee is welcome to take advantage of this offer.

Equipment

Guide equipment available at cost to any employee. This includes PFDs, helmets, paddles, throw bags, and carabiners. These are for your personal use, of course, but if you want to take advantage of this to get a PFD for your spouse, girl/boyfriend, or kid, we probably wouldn′t say anything. Other equipment, such as wet suits or other paddling gear, can be ordered at a (usually) 25% discount off of retail.

Discounts on Other Merchandise

There is a 25% discount on any item in our retail store (except for the food). This includes shirts, caps, and other items. Be like the rest of us and do all your summer birthday gift shopping in the store!

Fun

And last, but hardly least, a fun place to work. We work hard here, but we also have a lot of fun doing it. Years from now, this will be the summer job that you remember!
